The biggest challenge with learning to meditate is slowing down your thoughts, and monitoring your thinking to a point of having complete dominion over your mind. I've heard people say that when they sit still in a meditative position their mind race with thoughts; and in some cases they simply fall asleep. It's ok to fall asleep in the beginning, for meditation is a form of relaxation and the racing thoughts will subside in time, but you must keep meditating everyday to gain dominion over your mind. When I say "dominion" I'm not implying force of any kind; what I am saying is a gentleness, patience, and love must take over your consciousness in the same fashion as a mother or father with their newborn baby.
